Spicy Donair meat, Tangy sauce in a soft warm shell....yes it's KETO!
Do you ever find yourself teetering on the edge when a non Keto craving hits you?
Boy, I sure do! I am lucky enough to be pretty creative in the kitchen, so when that Donair craving hit...I hit the kitchen to come up with my own spin on the popular Maritime dish.
What you will need:
There are 3 parts to this dish: the juicy, spicy donair meat, sweet and tangy sauce and the soft chewy shell.
a large mixing bowl
lots of elbow grease
a wisk
a small mixing bowl
2 baking sheets
Parchment paper
Ingredients:
MEAT:
1 lb Ground beef or beef and pork blend
1 tsp Oregano
1 tsp Onion powder
1 tsp Garlic powder
1/8 tsp Cayenne
1tsp Pepper
1tsp Himalayan Pink Salt
1tsp Almond flour
** If you have a Sobeys you can make this easier by addind 2-3 Tbsp Donair spice to your ground meat and omit the spices listed above.
SAUCE:
1/2 C Whipping cream
3 tsp Vinegar
1 packet Stevia
1tsp Garlic powder
SHELL:
1 Egg
1 C Shredded Mozzarella
Instructions:
A successful dish is about quality ingredients, great technique and putting your heart into it.
MEAT- Place ground meat into a large bowl. Combine all spices and then add them to the meat. This is where technique is important. You need to mix this very well, I use my hands and pick up the mixture and throw it into the bowl several times with some force (yes get those stresses out ). The goal is to break down the fibres and make a very pasty, smoothe mixture so that the final product is similar in texture to donair meat when cooked. Once you have mixed the meat, wipe the sweat off your brow, form it into a loaf and flatten it to 1.5 inches. Place on a baking sheet and bake @375 for 30 mins. Let cool completely before slicing
SAUCE- Combine Whipping cream, Stevia and Garlic powder and mix well. Add Vinegar one tsp at a time wisking the whole time. Cover and refridgerate until ready to use....yes ok stick your pinky in and have a taste first. ... mmmmm good right?!
SHELL- (this makes 2 shells)
Mix the cheese and egg white a put half of the mixture on the left of a parchment lined baking sheet and half on the right. Flatten out into a circle around 5 inches in diameter bake at 350 for 15 mins, or until slightly golden.
Time to assemble!
Place a shell on a plate and add some heated donair meat ( I like to fry mine in a bit of olive oil), top with lettuce, tomato and onion and desired amount of sauce.
Only one thing left to do..After you take a pic for Social media.. ENJOY, you deserve it.

YUM! We're having donairs tomorrow. Can I make the sauce ahead? Or will the vinegar curdle the cream overnight?
Made this today!
looks so good
